All-of-us Express journeys back to the days of the Arabian Nights

A young cast tells the story of the storyteller 'Scheherazade'

Friday, July 22 — Grab yourflying carpet: “Scheherazade: Legend ofthe Arabian Nights” is the latest production of All-of-us Express Children’sTheatre. The show, directed by Rick Dethlefsen, brings to life the story ofScheherazade, the legendary narrator of the Arabian Nights folk tales. She uses her wit and talent toovercome the wrath of a powerful king who grew vengeful after he suffered abroken heart.

As with all productions by All-of-us Express, “Scheherazade” features a cast composed entirely of youth actors,ranging from 6 to 17 years old. In fact, almost all aspects of this play havebeen handled by the children, including set design, make-up, lighting, soundand props.

“We want to provide quality theater experience foryouth participants, both on and behind the scenes,” said Miranda Hartmann,artistic director of the play. She explained that adults only serve as supervisors to the nearly50 young people involved in the production.

“It’sdefinitely a family experience,” Hartmann said. “We encourage kids and parentsor grandparents to come together, experience and enjoy the show.”

Performances will take place Fridaysand Saturdays through July 30 in the Hannah Community Center. Ticketsare $5 for children 17 and under, and $7 for adults.
