Puppet masters

East Lansing Public Art Gallery puts the accent on youth with  “All-of-us/Reach: A Retrospective of Puppets and Masks Created by All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre and Reach Studio Art Center.” It’s a showcase for puppets and masks made as a collaboration between the two groups.
“We are always trying to find a group from a local school or college,” said Yvette Robinson, Public Art Gallery director. “So when Reach and All-of-us Express came along, I asked them if they had anything they would like to put on display. We talked about different children’s programs, and came up with an idea of how we could do a project for the group.”
The masks and puppets in the exhibit were created by children from ages 8-17. “We wanted the kids who have participated and their families to see the wonderful masks that were created for these shows so that the masks were not just in storage,” said Alice Brinkman, director of Reach Studio Art Center.
The gallery hosts a reception for the artists at 1 p.m. Saturday.
