A local charity aims to cash in on some of Lansing’s best views.

The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition'sViews of Lansing fundraiser on Saturday will showcase five buildingsknown for their architecture and great views of the city. Proceeds fromthe event will go to benefit the GLHC, which aims to provide qualityhousing and housing assistance for area residents.

The fundraiser showcases five buildings:the Christman Mutual Fund Building, the newly re-furbished AccidentFund National Headquarters building, Cooley Temple, Boji Tower and theCooley Law Center. Katherine Draper, executive director of the GLHC,said most of the buildings are not usually open to the general public.

The buildings were chosen mainly fortheir views of the city, but also for their unique architecture andtheir significance to the Lansing area, Draper said. Boji Tower, forinstance, holds the title of the tallest building in Lansing.

The event is a “rare opportunity to seethe buildings and experience what our downtown has to offer,” Drapersaid, adding that the GLHC plans to use the money raised from the eventto fulfill its mission of building a healthy community throughaffordable housing and assistance and educating residents. The fundsraised will help continue existing programs, such as foreclosurecounseling, home buying counseling, classes on common home maintenanceissues and affordable apartment rentals.

“We want to be able to continue to serveour community and the residents who need us,” Draper said. The GLHC’sservices are focused primarily on qualifying low-income individuals andfamilies.

This is the first year the GLHC has hosted this event.  For more information, call (517) 372-5980. The event is limited to 500 people and the GLHC would like those interested to reserve tickets in advance.
