Thursday, Oct. 13 — Six months after being named interim director of the Capital Area District Library, Maureen Hirten has gotten the job. Hirten, formerly public services librarian at the CADL's Okemos branch and CADL's assistant director, was confirmed by the CADL Board of Trustees in a unanimous vote.

In a press statement, Board of Trustees Chairwoman Marge Bossenberry said Hirten's "commitment to public service and dedication to community involvement, along with her experience and familiarity with the Capital Area District Library System, are just a few of the factors" that figured into the board's selection of Hirten.

Hirten earned a master's of library science from the University of Maryland-College Park and worked in Maryland and New York before moving to Lansing in 2002. She's married to Mickey Hirten, executive editor of The Lansing State Journal.
