Using drama to defuse bullying

Friday, Oct. 28 — “Bully-Be-Gone: Tactics and Strategies for Reducing Bullying in Schools,” written by Mid Michigan Family Theatre’s artisticdirector Bill Gordon, discusses the topic of bullying in schools and athome.

The production is ajoint effort between Mid Michigan Family Theatre and Lansing Everett Magnet forPerforming and Graphic Arts High School. Four actors from Lansing Everett performskits that portray younger children in a bullying situation.

“We wanted to comeup with a way to make it entertaining and educational,” Gordon said. To make itmore fun, the audience gets to participate in the action. Gordon said during the play, there iscompetition in which one character pretends to be a bully and an audiencemember takes a 10-question quiz to see what he or she has learned aboutbullying.

There will be twopublic performances at 2 and 4 p.m. Nov. 12, and local teachers are invited to see the show freeof charge. Regular admission to the shows is $5. Mid Michigan Family Theatre islocated at 440 Frandor Ave. in Lansing.
