Bomb threat on Lansing police headquarters deemed not credible

Friday, Nov. 18 — City Hall and Police Department employeesreturned to work this morning after a bomb threat against police headquartersdowntown closed and evacuated both buildings for almost two hours.

Lansing police Lt. Noel Garcia said an anonymous caller toldcentral dispatchers shortly after 9 a.m. that a bomb had been placed in policeheadquarters, on Michigan Avenue next to City Hall Police evacuated bothbuildings while canine units were brought in to sweep the floors of both buildings.

Other area units, including the Michigan State PoliceDepartment, came in to assist with the search, which yielded “no suspiciouspackages and no suspicious devices,” Garcia said. The buildings reopened atabout 11 a.m. and employees were allowed to return to work.

Police are investigating to determine the identity of theanonymous caller, Garcia said. He said they have no leads.

Garcia said the threat should have no bearing on the SilverBells celebration this evening and encouraged area residents to attend thecelebration, saying the department was “well prepared” for the event.

“We’re gearing up for a wonderful Lansing Silver Bells,” Garciasaid.
