'Sound' of the season

Elisabeth von Trapp and the Empire Brass come to the Wharton Center Thursday

Wednesday, Nov. 30 — The Wharton Center is alive with “TheSound of Christmas” — and singer Elisabeth von Trapp is joining the EmpireBrass for the Thursday concert.

The vocalist is the granddaughter of Maria von Trapp, whosememoirs inspired Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” Elisabeth vonTrapp, who was born and raised in Vermont, has been performing since childhood.Although the Von Trapp Family Singers disbanded in 1957, when Elisabeth was 2,she carried on the family’s musical legacy as a solo performer, learning guitarand piano and studying Gregorian Chant and the works of Hildegard von Bingen.Her repertoire includes a variety of styles, from Bach to Sting.

The program includes seasonal selections, as well as amedley from — what else? — “The Sound of Music.”
