Cellist Felix Wang returns home for LSO concert

Cellist and Okemos native Felix Wang is the guest artist at the Lansing Symphony Orchestra´s “Beethoven’s Eroica” concert on Jan. 7 at the Wharton Center´s Great Cobb Hall. Wang will perform Saint-Saëns´ Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor.

The program, which is conducted by Timothy Muffitt, also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, “Eroica” and David Diamond’s “Rounds for String Orchestra.” 

A founding member of the Blakemore Trio and co-principal cellist of the IRIS Orchestra, Wang received a doctorate of musicalarts from the University of Michigan, a masters degree in music from the New England Conservatory and a bachelors degree in music from the Peabody Institute.

He is an associate professor of cello at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. ,and a former member of the faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts.
