DeWitt photographer gets a showcase at Detroit Auto Show

Posted
New, flashy cars aren’t the only eye-catchers being displayed at the Detroit Auto Show this year. Viewers will also get a chance to also see 40 large images of Michigan, all photographed by Michael McPeak of DeWitt.
McPeak says that electric cars will drive on an indoor track through Cobo Hall encircling his 40 Michigan images. Each image is four feet wide by 14 feet high and features the Pure Michigan logo. The images are so big, McPeak says, that even Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t touch them. The images are also translucent so the viewers can see them from both sides.
McPeak — who oversees the "Faces of Caring" project — has been photographing the state since he was 8 years old; 50 years later, he says he still finds new beauty to capture each time he raises his camera. In addition, McPeak was able to raise over $5,000 for various non-profits in 2011 by taking portraits in exchange for donations.
The Ride and Drive is sponsored by Pure Michigan and runs Sunday.
