City Council announces public input sessions on Kewadin Lansing casino proposal

Posted

Wednesday, Feb. 15 — The Lansing City Council has announced a pair of public forums on consideration of the Bernero administration's downtown casino proposal.

The forums are scheduled for Feb. 29 and March 7 on the south side and eastside, respectively. The first is at Southside Community Center, 5825 Wise Road, while the second is at Foster Community Center, 200 N. Foster Ave. Both are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The Council formally started its discussion of the proposal Feb. 7, and at least three members have expressed concerns about developer commitments and amending the development agreement; who exactly the developer, Lansing Future LLC, is; how many jobs would actually go to Lansing residents; and what kind of local funding will go toward human services programs for gambling addiction.

The administration has said the development agreement will not be changed and that there is a plan to fund gambling addiction services, though details are not yet ready.
