Friday, May 11 — It takes 16 hands and 704 keys to create a “Piano Monster,” which is exactly what Michigan State University College of Music will conjure up Sunday, May 13. The 3 p.m. concert features eight grand pianos and an octet of pianists: Michael Callahan, Sangmi Lim, Panayis Lyras, Deborah Moriarty, Alan Nathan, Derek Polischuk, Minsoo Sohn, and Ralph Votapek.
They’ll perform works by Wagner, Moszkowski, Dvo%u0159k, Copland, Dahl, and Sousa, as well as Camille Saint-Sans’ “The Carnival of the Animals.” “Animals” features Kenneth Beachler narrating the score with humorist Ogden Nash's famous verses.
“Piano Monster” is conducted by John T. Madden, associate director of bands and director of the Spartan Marching Band.
