THURSDAY, May 24 — Farmers, food vendors and craft makers from Lansing and other areas of the state arrived Wednesday at 1619 East Kalamazoo St. to partake in the annual Allen Street Farmers Market.

Market-goers had a wide selection of products to browse. Vegetables, cookies, cheese, beef, honey and crafts were all part of the spread. The marketplace is at full capacity this year, market manager Hollie Hamel said.

One of the vendors, Dale Woods, of Applegate Honey in Fowlerville said he’s been coming to the Allen Street Farmers Market for five years to sell his raw, wild flower honey.

“It’s all locally produced,” he said as he offered out spoonfuls of honey to customers.

This marks the ninth year the market has been open, Hamel said, “Can you believe it?”

What started with only four vendors and a hand masseuse has steadily grown into a seasonal neighborhood tradition. The market features 27 vendors this year and will be held every Wednesday from 2:30pm to 7 p.m. until Oct. 31.
