The East Lansing Film Society hosts a free sneak preview of “Beasts of the Southern Wild” at 7 p.m. Thursday at East Lansing’s Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The film is scheduled to open locally July 27.

Director and co-writer Benh Zeitlin’s film stars Quvenzhane Wallis as Hushpuppy, an imaginative 6-year-old Louisiana girl who lives with her single father (Dwight Henry) in a bayou village endangered by flooding. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, as well as the Camera d’Or for the best debut film and the international critics’ prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Doors open at 6 p.m. and eating is on a first-come basis. For more information, visit www.elff.com
