City, Niowave officials scheduled to meet again with neighbors

Posted

Friday, Aug. 31 — City officials and representatives from Niowave Inc. have agreed to meet with residents in the Walnut Neighborhood again to work toward solutions on the company’s unsightly, 14,000-square-foot addition, according to one neighbor close to the situation.

Mary Elaine Kiener, who lives near Niowave’s pole barn and is coordinating the dialog between residents and the company, said in an online message Thursday night that the parties will meet Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Neighborhood Empowerment Center, 600 W. Maple St.

The meeting is scheduled to include Niowave officials and landscape architect Bob Ford (who the company has retained for faade improvements). “You can also expect strong participation from the City as well,” her message says.

Last week, about 25 residents met with Ford to voice their concerns with Niowave’s addition. However, no one from the company showed up to meet directly with them, which was a main point of frustration by neighbors. Ford said he came into the meeting "naive" about the controversy. The event included Mayor Virg Bernero and members of his cabinet, three Lansing City Council members and Bob Trezise, president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership.

Here are more details from that meeting.
