Bitch Please at Mac’s Bar

Bitch Please is a Kentucky-born cocktail of hip-hop, house music, rap and dubstep. Fans of Master P, TRU and Juvenile will dig this — and so will any new-in-town college freshman looking to shake that thang. Opening is the dubstep-influenced hip-hop duo Turnidup with Parker Booth and Cayce Sylvester. Opening the Thursday night show is Jaws That Bite, a murky, confused descent into ambient trip-hop, as created by Mike D. Sabatini.

Dark Psychosis at Mac’s Bar

Dark Psychosis plays a raw and filthy style of black metal influenced by predictable sources like Venom and Bathory, but also the psychedelic reverberations of the 13^th Floor Elevators. Fans of Hellhammer and early Mayhem will likely want to check out this thrash-metal trio, which includes Sean Peters (guitar, vocals), Justin Henry (drums) and Scott Lehman (bass). Also playing Friday is Cosmic Throne, Cavalcade and Hedorah, setting the stage for a saturating night of carnal metal.

Twin Cats at The Loft

Formed by identical twins Adam and Seth Catron, Twin Cats play some face-melting funk-fusion, with a strong lean toward both jazz and rock-n-roll. Their shows often highlight the intensity of saxophonist Nick Gerlach, while the whole ensemble blends seamlessly into a smooth, controlled explosion of prog rock. The Twins Cats, feature the Catron brothers (Adam on drums; Seth on guitar and vocals), Gerlach on saxophone, Phil Geyer (keyboards) and Cameron Reel (bass).

Friday @ The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. 18 and over, $10 for 18-20, $7 for 21, 8 p.m.

The Squids at The Green Door

The Squids describe themselves as a “happy-good-fun-time” band with a wealth of PG-rated covers. When they choose to be serious, the lead singer’s voice is semi-reminiscent of Allen Clarke of The Hollies — he’s also more than capable of doing justice to some Credence Clearwater Revival covers. The band is comprised of Jim Pontack (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Brent Gillespie (bass), Jeff Lund (lead guitar, vocals), Dan Mead (drums) and Mitch Foster (keyboards).
