Part of the art: Day 7

Posted

Tuesday, Nov. 20 — Anyone interested in participating in a community-wide photo project being launched as part of the opening of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum still have time to have their portraits taken for it.

“The Gift: Lansing, Michigan,” will be open to participants on Fridays starting on Nov. 30 through Dec. 14 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Broad Art Museum in East Lansing.

Nearly 500 people have had their portrait taken as part of the project by photographic artist Jochen Gerz, which will result in a wall of framed black and white photos at the museum. It was commissioned by the MSU Arts Department and City Pulse.

When the exhibit is over, all participants will be called and given a portrait — but not their own — to take home and hang. Hence the name, “The Gift.”
