Lansing mayor scheduled to appear on City Pulse TV show to discuss consolidation concept, the city’s budget outlook and Right to Work

Monday, Dec. 10 — Tune in to “City Pulse Newsmakers” this weekend for an appearance by Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, who will address the topics of consolidating local units of government, the city’s budget outlook and statewide Right to Work legislation.

Bernero broached the consolidation issue during a City Pulse radio interview last month. It’s become the subject of ongoing debate, with support and opposition coming out over the past few weeks from local officials. On Friday, the president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership, Bob Trezise, endorsed the mayor’s concept at a luncheon, calling it “the most profound statement I’ve heard in 20 years doing economic development.”

Two other “Newsmakers” episodes discussed consolidation. In the first installment, East Lansing Councilman Nathan Triplett, Lansing Township Supervisor Kathleen Rodgers and Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing tackled the issue (video here). Last week, former Lansing Mayor David Hollister expressed his support for the idea (audio here).

The Bernero interview will air Sunday on Comcast Ch. 16 at 11 and 11:30 a.m. and on Comcast Ch. 30 in Meridian Township at 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Sunday; 5 p.m. throughout the week and at 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.

Audio of the interview will air at 7 p.m. Wednesday on 88.9 FM The Impact and will be available at www.lansingcitypulse.com after Wednesday.
