Gig Report

A rundown of Lansing shows this weekend

Posted

Thursday, Dec. 13 — Still no plans for the weekend? City Pulse has tracked down some hard-rocking and more upbeat electronic gigs hitting area venues this weekend. If none of these float your boat, check out the newest edition of Turn It Down — a survey of Lansing’s musical landscape — in this week’s issue of City Pulse.

Cadaver Dogs at Mac’s Bar

Cadaver Dogs promises dirty, raw live shows that rewrite the rules for debauchery, though fans will likely get more enjoyment out of the sounds inspired by (or borrowing from) The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The Ohio-based band hits Mac’s Bar Saturday, an all-ages gig at the tail end of its tour promoting Cadaver Dogs’ first full-length album, “Superloose.” The trio (Mathew Franklin, Cole Walsh-Davis, and Lex Vegas) will be appearing with fellow alt-rockers Archana, The Getout and The Dockside Fever at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday, Dec. 15th @ Mac’s Bar; 2700 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing; all ages; $8 in advance, $10 at door; 5:30 p.m.

Primer 55 at Uli’s Haus of Rock

Metalcore/hip-hop fusion band Primer 55 headlines an all-ages show steeped in hard rock, metal and hardcore rap this Sunday at Uli’s Haus of Rock. The Kentucky-based Primer 55 has shared bills with big-name rock bands like Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age and Black Label Society, even performing as the opening act in the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos. With its history of intense touring and Billboard success, Primer 55’s presence should make for an energetic night of rock and metal, with the help from the show’s openers: Viasava, Forever There After, Hillside Barrier, Mettal Maffia, Down Strait, Darkest Summit, and 19 Tildawn.

Sunday, Dec. 16 @ Uli’s Haus of Rock; 4519 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Lansing; all ages; $10 at door; 5 p.m.

The Coop at The Loft

For an alternative sound in a decidedly punk rock/hardcore heavy week of shows, The Coop will provide weirdness and electronic jams this Friday night at The Loft. The Chicago band’s brand of sugary pop and electronica mixes sleek electronic sounds with some traditional instruments, creating a jam-band and dub combo. The quartet has one full-length album, “Internalize,” under its belt so far, and the guys are also gigging at festivals and clubs across the country into the new year.

Friday, Dec. 15 @ The Loft; 414 East Michigan Ave., Lansing; 18 and over; $6 in advance, $8 at door, $10 for 18 and over; 8 p.m.
