Trevino charged

Wednesday, Jan. 2 — A 40-year-old Lansing man prominent in the medical marijuana community was arraigned today in 54A District Court on two felony counts after a traffic incident involving alcohol.

Lansing Police Capt. Daryl Green confirmed today that the man facing the charges, Daniel (Danny) Dario Trevino, is the owner of HydroWorld, a medical marijuana dispensary with two locations in Lansing, one in Jackson and one in Grand Rapids.

Four HydroWorld employees were charged by state Attorney General Bill Schuette for allegedly selling medical marijuana cards to undercover police officers. In November, District Judge Hugh Clarke Jr. dismissed criminal charges against them after he ruled that the state law under which they were arrested was vague.

In December 2011, Schuette attempted to close HydroWorld, calling it a public nuisance based on an appellate court ruling in August 2011 that effectively shut down most of Lansing’s 41 medical marijuana dispensaries.HydroWorld’s two Lansing locations are among a handful that have stayed open.

According to a press release from the Lansing Police Department, Trevino was driving a vehicle with “extensive damage” on North Grand River Avenue just before 4 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was missing a wheel, a rear bumper and panels on the passenger side of the car.

After an officer stopped the vehicle and began exiting his car, Trevino backed into the patrol vehicle and sped away. The officer was uninjured and chased Trevino for two blocks near the Capital Region International Airport. Lansing Police say alcohol was a factor.

Trevino is charged with third degree fleeing a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon — both felonies. He’s also charged with a misdemeanor of operating a vehicle while impaired. Trevino is being charged as a habitual offender, fourth offense. He has been convicted of three felony drug crimes in the past, one for cocaine and two for marijuana.

Trevino was held on $10,000 bond. A pre-exam conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. Jan. 10.
