Friday Fashion Pulse

A riff of elements

Posted

Friday, Feb. 22 — Ella Campbell, a jazz student at Michigan State University, isn’t waiting for spring to see the flowers bloom. Stepping into the limelight with her colorful flower printed pants, Campbell creates the perfect ensemble of bright tones and unexpected surprises — kind of like the perfect jazz piece.

The floral print pants, an item Campbell bought at T.J.Maxx for $15, set the stage for an outfit rich with melding textures and colors. Busy prints are usually a solo act, but by utilizing solid and neutral colors for the rest of the outfit, Campbell successfully created a playful motif.

“My Mom is the type of person that will not throw things out until they can no longer be worn,” laughed Campbell. “I think I got that from her.”

The stylish accessories matched the flower tones. The long, multi-layered beaded necklace was a relic from her middle school days from Forever 21. The turquoise earrings came from a friend

“Since I don’t have my ears pierced, my friends usually give me clip on earrings as gifts.”

Campbell’s pieces are original, but stores in the Lansing area — like La Bodega, Karabo and Su Casa Boutique and Jewelers — have a large selection of similar accessories.

Take a note from Ella Campbell and find your personal beat.
