Thursday, March 14 — We’ve got a special St. Patrick’s Day edition of Gig Report for you this week. A variety of acoustic, rock, Celtic and metal hits local stages this weekend. With band names like Celtic Mayhem, how could you go wrong?

Glen Erin Pipe Band at The Opera House

The Irish celebration starts early this Friday with the Glen Erin Bagpipe Band at the Grand Ledge Pre-St. Patrick’s Day Concert. The band, continuing a long-standing tradition of parades and ceremonies across the country, boasts twelve bagpipers and a seven-member drum corps. The Glen Erin Pipe Band will be headlining the concert, which includes more traditional Irish music and dancing. Irish food and beverages will be available for sale.

St. Patrick’s Day Bash at The Green Door

St. Patrick’s Day starts bright and early at The Green Door, which opens at 8 a.m. with live music starting at noon. Opening act Darin Larner is an acoustic singer/songwriter who writes solo material when he isn’t performing with DeWitt classic rock band Hidden Agenda. At 5 p.m., Celtic Mayhem turns up the Irish vibe with their “power trio” version of Celtic rock. Headlining at 9 p.m. are Lansing favorites Mix Pack, a cover band that’s promised to get Irish with repertoire for the bash.

St. Patty’s Day Massacre at Uli’s Haus of Rock

St. Patrick’s Day at Uli’s features pulse-pounding metal, deathcore and even grunge. Metal bands from across Michigan and the Midwest will be showcasing their talents for a brutal twist on the Celtic holiday. The lineup includes As Summer Dies, Through the Ashes, Know Lyfe, Conditional Critical, To the Devil a Martyr, Blackout Friday and Monument 6.

Sunday, Uli’s Haus of Rock, 4519 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Lansing, 18, $5-$10, 4 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day at Claddagh’s Irish Pub

Capping a weeklong St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Claddagh’s Irish Pub is an all-day party with live music and the pub’s signature Celtic cuisine. At 10 a.m., guitarist, pianist and Fenton-native Bobby Standal presents his versions of traditional Irish music. Then at 2:30, the Mike Vial Trio Band takes the party in another traditional direction with Irish pub songs. The night culminates with the JDJ Band and their classic American rock, which is sure to carry the celebration late into the night.
