Filmmaker Sadia Shepard’s film “The Other Half of Tomorrow” plays at 7 p.m. tonight. The film is in conjunction with Pakistani artist Naiza Khan’s exhibition, “Karachi Elegies.” Admission is free.

“The Other Half of Tomorrow” is a portrait of contemporary Pakistan as seen through the perspectives of Pakistani women working to change their country. The film explores a handful of woman-led endeavors aimed at improving the country including a women’s rights workshop in rural Punjab, an underground dance academy in Karachi and the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team. 

The action at the Broad this weekend doesn’t end with the film. Tomorrow, MSU Jazz Studies Professor Rodney Whitaker will lead the Jazz After Hours concert at the museum.

Jazz After Hours is an evening jazz program that blends renowned jazz artists and the visual arts. Whitaker is an internationally renowned recording artist, jazz bassist, professor of jazz music and is the artistic director for the Professors of Jazz at MSU. If you like jazz, you won’t want to miss Whitaker’s performance.

According to the Broad Museum website, “Whitaker, with one of the most undeniably distinctive bear-sized bass tones, is considered to be one of the leading bass performers and teachers of the jazz double bass in the United States.”

The performance starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday and advance tickets are available online. Prices range from $10 to $5, purchasing tickets at the door will cost you $3 more. Click here for ticket information.
