Sale of the Century

Wednesday, May 15 — Even superheroes have to hang up their capes, sometimes. Today,
Andy Morrow, owner of 21^st Century Comics and Games, announced that he’ll be closing his East Lansing comic book store “sometime in June.”

“It all depends on how quickly I can sell everything,” Morrow said. “It was a good run, but I just got tired of having two jobs. My degree is in telecom, and I want to focus more on that aspect of my career.”

In a release, Morrow said, “I have spent the last year working to sell the store. Unfortunately I have not found a buyer. With the end of my lease approaching, the time has come to close.”

Morrow, 30, bought the business in 2007 from the store’s second owner, Dave Wallace. Morrow said 21^st Century opened in 2000 under W. A. Gilmore in one of the lower suites in the plaza, 515 E. Grand River Ave.

Besides comic books, 21^st Century sells role-playing games, trade paperbacks and miniatures. Morrow enacted a storewide discount marking everything 20 percent off. He said there be also be “flash sales” to spur business.

He has a final order coming in May 29, which will be included in the sale.
