Bar 30 in Eastwood to close

Friday, June 14 — Bar 30 in The Heights at Eastwood Towne Center will close after this weekend and reopen as a high-end steakhouse later this summer whose owners include a prominent local restaurateur.

“Yes! the rumors are true this will be our last weekend open!” the bar and restaurant’s Facebook page says as of Thursday. It also says it will reopen on Sept. 1 as Capital Prime Steakhouse.

Steve Hayward, executive director of the Eastwood Downtown Development Authority and development director for Lansing Township, said the Bar 30 owners and the DDA “felt it was in the best interest to go in a different direction with a concept better supported by the market.”

Hayward said the co-owners of Bar 30 — George Kurajian and Chuck Senatore — are bringing in a new management team to own the steakhouse, but he declined to say who that is.

“I would be rumor-mongering at this point,” he said.

Sources say the steakhouse will be run by a partnership that includes the Bar 30 owners and Joe Goodsir. Goodsir is a partner in EquityVest, the management company behind local restaurants and bars such as Beggar’s Banquet, Harrison Road House, Rick’s American Caf and The Riv in East Lansing, as well as the Nut House Sports Grill in Lansing. EquityVest is not involved in the new restaurant.

One of the partners will be a restaurant operator with extensive experience at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, a high-end chain, sources said.

Hayward declined to say who the new partners are.

Kurajian and Senatore also co-own Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza next door to Bar 30. Senatore could “neither confirm nor deny” EquityVest’s involvement in the new partnership.

Senatore said he and Kurajian will have an ownership interest in the steakhouse, but they will not be involved in the day-to-day operations. He said the Tony Sacco’s franchise has expanded in the past year and their efforts will be focused on that.

Bar 30, 2324 Showtime Drive in Lansing Township, opened in August and billed itself as an “affordable American eclectic” restaurant by day and early evenings. Later at night, the scene switches to an upscale nightclub and martini lounge with live music.
