A rundown of Lansing shows this week

Thursday, June 20 — Punk rock, singer-songwriters and dubstep are on tap along the Michigan Avenue corridor in Lansing this weekend. Mac’s Bar starts things off tonight with punk rockers Direct Hit!, while a variety of singer-songwriters perform at The Avenue Friday as DJ Pacifix brings his brand of dance music to The Loft.


Also check out this week’s edition of Turn It Down, highlighting more upcoming shows in the area including Seattle-based indie group Ivan and Alyosha at Mac’s as well as the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival.


Direct Hit! return to Mac’s

Punk rock band Direct Hit! — with Ramones-esque power pop and pop punk tunes — stops in Lansing tonight with support from the Jetty Boys and Dee Cracks. Local bands Reconnect and So Long Naota open the Fusion Shows-produced event. Direct Hit! has played shows all around the United States, Canada and Europe and have played alongside up-and-coming bands like Minnesota’s Banner Pilot and Wisconsin’s Masked Intruder.

The Avenue Cafe hosts singer-songwriter showcase

A few of mid-Michigan’s singer-songwriters will be performing as part of The Avenue Café’s Indie Singer-Songwriter Showcase. Former member of Lansing band The Sunset Club and now a solo artist, Jory Stultz, and former member of indie pop band Happy Human, Liz McDaniel, are among those performing. Washington-based Harris Face and Chris Lingell are also scheduled to perform.

Dubstep party at The Loft

East Lansing-based DJ Pacifix brings various styles of dance music — from dubstep to trap to dancehall — to The Loft Friday. The Michigan State University student combines electronic influences with various alternative rock styles from bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana and dance group Daft Punk into a unique style. Crystal Eyes opens the show.
