A rundown of Lansing shows this week

Wednesday, July 3 — Lansing’s Adado Riverfront Park will presumably see some major foot traffic this week as Fourth of July festivities and Common Ground liven up downtown. The Lansing Concert Band is the opening act for this year’s fireworks Thursday, while major Canadian band Barenaked Ladies start the 15th annual music festival.


Also check out this week’s edition of Turn It Down, highlighting more upcoming shows in the area, including an album release for metalcore band Endeavors, California pop punks City Mouse and a DIY zine event at the Michigan State Library.


Fourth of July Lansing Concert Band performance

The Lansing Concert Band will perform at Adado Riverfront Park in Lansing as part of the city’s Fourth of July festivities. The LCB have performed holiday concerts, children’s concerts and other events. This will be the band’s 21st year in a row performing on the Fourth of July. A fireworks display takes place immediately after the concert.

Hoopties at The Green Door

Rooted in blues music, Lansing’s The Hoopties play original American roots music as well as cover tunes. Also dabbling in reggae, country and soul, the band is working on a new album. The six-member group released its debut album “It Ain’t Never Been Easy” in September 2011. Some of the members, including lead singer Twyla Birdsong, also perform solo gigs and with other bands.

Barenaked Ladies kick off Common Ground

Famous for hit songs like “One Week,” Canadian band Barenaked Ladies headline the first night of Common Ground Music Festival at Adado Riverfront Park in downtown Lansing. A variety of national and local groups open the evening, including Ben Folds Five, Xavier Rudd, Guster and Elliot Street Lunatic. Tickets can be purchased at Common Ground Festival's website.
