Arlo Guthrie coming to Wharton Center

Posted

Tuesday, July 23 — Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday for Arlo Guthrie, who will perform at the Wharton Center on Oct. 3. Guthrie, 66, is most famous for his 1967 talking blues song, “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree,” which lampooned the Vietnam War draft.

Guthrie performed at Woodstock in 1969, and had a minor hit with the live version of “The Motorcycle Song.”

Performing with Guthrie will be his son, Abe Guthrie (keyboards) and grandson Krishna Guthrie (guitar). His father was seminal folk singer Woody Guthrie, who wrote the Americana ballad, “This Land Is Your Land.”

The concert includes storytelling, standards and original songs.
