Whole Foods coming to town

Supermarket chain plans 2015 opening in Meridian Township

Thursday, Aug. 1 — Whole Foods Market, the Austin, Texas-based grocery chain specializing in natural and organic foods, reportedly plans to open a new location in Meridian Township in 2015.


MLive.com reports Whole Foods will occupy 2758 E. Grand River Ave. in Meridian Township, the location of Velocipede Peddler. The space is near other specialty grocers Foods for Living and the East Lansing Food Coop.


A Whole Foods spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.


MLive also reports that the new 35,000-square-foot store will bring in 150 new employees.


Started in 1980, Whole Foods now has 350 locations throughout the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom, including six in Michigan.
