Singer/songwriter icons coming to Cobb Hall

Friday, Aug. 2 — On Oct. 29, acclaimed singer/songwriters Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt will perform an unplugged show at the Wharton Center's Cobb Great Hall on the campus of Michigan State University. The two have toured together since 1989.

Musician/actor Lovett has won four Grammy awards, including Best Male Country vocalist award in 1989; his album, “The Road to Ensenada,” won the Best Country Album award in 1996. His songs include “Penguins,” “She’s No Lady” and “If I Had a Boat.” His newest album “Release Me” came out in Feb. 2012 and is a tribute to the music he grew up listening to.

Hiatt has released 19 studio albums since 1972, and he has been nominated for 11 Grammys. His songs have been covered by Bonnie Raitt (“Thing Called Love”), the Jeff Healey Band (“Angel Eyes”) and Buddy Guy (“Feels Like Rain”). He is probably most famous for his love ballad, “Have a Little Faith in Me.” He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Music Association in 2008. His newest release was last year’s “Mystic Pinball.”
