WKAR seeks television audience for new ‘Current Sports’ talk show

Tuesday, Aug. 13 — On Thursday, WKAR-TV will record the first episode of its new sports talk show, “Current Sports.” The show will feature a live studio audience, and the show’s producers are looking for local people interested in being part of the action.


The “Current Sports” live taping takes place in the Communication Arts & Sciences Building, Studio F, 404 Wilson Road on the campus of Michigan State University. Parking is free after 6 p.m. in the Trowbridge Road parking ramp. Seating for this event is free, but reservations are required and can be made online at wkar.org. You must arrive by 6 p.m. for check-in and seating. Taping starts at 6:30 p.m.


The first episode of “Current Sports” will air Sept. 12 at 10 p.m. on WKAR-TV. The show will be hosted by Al Martin, and the program’s first guest will be former Spartan, NBA star and sports announcer Greg “Special K” Kelser. Martin also hosts Current Sports on WKAR-AM (870). The television version of the program will air weekly and combine interviews and discussions with a look at the events on the calendar for the upcoming weekend.


WKAR is part of MSU’s College of Communication Arts & Sciences and includes WKAR-TV, WKAR Radio, WKAR.org, WKAR Radio Reading Service and WKAR Ready To Learn Service.
