East Lansing City Council member won’t seek third term

Tuesday, Aug. 13 — East Lansing City Council member Kevin Beard announced today that he would not seek a third term on the Council. Beard cited “professional opportunities” as the reason he wouldn’t run.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my service to the community,” Beard said in a press release.“I consider having the trust and confidence of the citizens of East Lansing a high honor.I have made this decision after consulting with my family.”

Beard was elected in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.Prior to being elected to Council, Beard served on the Parks and Recreation Commission and on the Planning Commission. In the release, he thanked his family and his campaign managers for their help and support over the years.

East Lansing City Council member Victor Loomis is also reportedly not seeking re-election.
