Suds and cupcakes

Thursday, Sept. 5 — Tonight the Lansing-based beer appreciation society I’m a Beer Hound hosts its latest beer-pairing event. This round will couple selections from the newly opened Cranker’s Brewery in Big Rapids with cupcakes from Jennifer Quinn's Creative Cakes, based in Leslie. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the REO Town Pub.

There will be five pairings of mini-cupcakes and 5-6 oz. beer samples. The pairings will be:

-Sure Shot Stout - Coffee Stout/dark chocolate cupcake with espresso frosting

-Coconut Porter/ German chocolate cupcake

-Bulldog Irish Red/ red velvet cupcake

-Professor IPA/ carrot cupcake

-Dam Breaker Brown Ale/ vanilla cupcake with maple syrup frosting

Cranker’s head brewer Adam Mills will also be on hand to discuss his brewery’s spin on old and new world classic beer styles. There will also be drink specials at the conclusion of the event.
