Thursday, Sept. 12 — Fans of cats, dogs, ‘80s pop-soulsters and Michigan cherry pie are in for a treat Friday. 

— The second Mid-Michigan Cat Rescue Adoptathon will be held from 1-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event will take place in the parking lot of PetSmart, 305 N. Marketplace Blvd. in Lansing. The event is a collaborative pet adoption event featuring cats and dogs from mid-Michigan animal rescues and shelters.

“The last Adoptathon (in May) was a huge success — more than 100 animals found homes,” said MMCR Director Sarah Vicary in a press release. “We’ve received an overwhelming support from the community, which is why we decided to make this a biannual event.”

In the release, Vicary said the event is the largest collaborative pet adoption event held in mid-Michigan, with an average of 100 pets available for adoption each day. Each day will feature reduced adoption rates, family entertainment — including magicians and face painting — information on community resources available for homeless pets and opportunities to get involved with local organizations through volunteering.

— At 10 a.m. Friday, tickets go on sale for Michael McDonald’s Dec. 21 show at the Wharton Center, “This Christmas: An Evening of Holiday and Hits.” The former Doobie Brother and Grammy award-winner will blend songs from his 40-plus-year career with holiday favorites. — In other music news, the Ten Pound Fiddle launches its 39^th season at 8 p.m. Friday with Claudia Schmidt with Dean McGraw. Long-time Fiddle favorite Schmidt will perform original songs and spoken word selections; her fellow Minnesotan, Dean Magraw will join her on guitar.
