Thursday, Oct. 10 — From Kenya to South Korea, Latvia to Lansing, protesters around the world are getting together Saturday to protest agriculture behemoth Monsanto and more generally the widespread use of Genetically Modified Organisms in our food.

“March Against Monsanto” events are being held worldwide and organizers are meeting from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the state Capitol for Lansing’s rally.

“Its time The People of the United States and our government got on board with sanity. Its time we join the world in ending this dangerous experiment done for no greater reason other than profit,” a press release for Lansing’s event says.

Monsanto, the Missouri-based biotechnology company that produces the herbicide Roundup and genetically modified seeds that have actually become resistant to it, faces criticism for its industry lobbying and aggressive litigation against farmers to protect its products.

More information on Saturday’s event can be found here.
