Wednesday, Dec. 11 — The Meridian Township Board of Trustees has approved plans by Texas-based high-end grocer Whole Foods to open its first location in greater Lansing in 2015.

WLNS-TV and MLive.com reported Tuesday night that the board unanimously approved plans for the 35,000-square-foot store at 2758 E. Grand River Ave. in close proximity to organic grocer Foods for Living and the East Lansing Food Co-op.

In addition to concerns about the store’s location next to two locally owned grocers, MLive reported that concerns over the store’s signage and traffic flow were also raised.

City Pulse’s Nov. 20 cover story explored what Whole Foods could mean to local grocers and what the company’s expansion has meant for other communities.
