Who wants to own a brewery?

Local startup looking for community members to own a piece of the action

Thursday, Dec. 12 — If you’ve ever wanted to own a brewery, here’s your chance. A brewery and whiskey distillery has set its sights on Lansing’s east side, and the co-founders are looking to include the community in on the action.

Sleepwalker Spirits and Ale has a vision of community members being co-owners of the business, which will allow them to provide input and guidance to where the business is going. On Thursday, Dec. 19, Sleepwalker co-founders Matt Jason and Jeremy Sprague will present information to the public at the Allen Market Place, 1619 E. Kalamazoo St, Lansing.

“Michigan is a great beer state in the country and Lansing is the capital and we really haven’t staked out our place on the map,” Jason said. “We really want to make Lansing more of a presence in this great beer culture.”

He said the majority of ingredients used in the spirits and ales will be locally grown in the Mid-Michigan area.

“We feel there is a great community in Lansing who is interested in local products,” Jason said. “And we really want to serve that interest in the community.”

At the event, there will be kegs to be tapped and tasted. The style of sample beers available will include Hefeweizen, scotch, brown, Belgian and IPA. Whiskey samples will not be available at this event, but Jason and Sprague will describe how the whiskey will be produced.
