Capital Area Blues Society to host 11th annual fundraiser

Posted

Friday, Jan. 17 — The Capital Area Blues Society hosts its annual Beale Street Bound Blues Party this Sunday. The event serves as a fundraiser to send musicians who won the local Blues Brawl contest to compete at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn., Jan. 21-25.

Mike Skory, the group’s president, said that as many of the competitors are full-time musicians, the fund-raising efforts really do help to offset travel costs. Participating performers range from Lansing to the five or six surrounding counties.

“The bands featured are the best in the area,” Skory said.

Blues Brawl winners John Latini and Jamie-Sue Seal and Kev Nichols and Blue Tuesday are set to preform, as well as the Capital Area Blues All-Stars and the Late Edition Band featuring Gina Garner. Skory said what helps draw the crowd in is the music quality and a point of pride.

“People are proud to send someone from the area to a worldwide competition,” he said. “It’s nice to cheer them on.”
