Wednesday, Jan. 29 — The chairman of an independent panel reviewing the Lansing Board of Water and Light's December ice-storm response is encouraging not just ratepayers' experiences at public hearings next week, but also suggestions on how the utility could have better handled the crisis.

"We're encouraging members of the community to attend these sessions and share with us not just their experiences with the ice storm, but their meaningful suggestions as to how the BWL response should have been handled," retired Brig. Gen. Michael McDaniel, who was appointed by Mayor Virg Bernero to chair the Community Review Team, said in a statement. "We are aware that other public forums have been previously held, but we would (like) to hear from the community for ourselves, rather than relying on secondhand reports."

The forums will take place on Feb. 5 in East Lansing (Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road); Feb. 6 in Lansing (Pattengill Middle School, 626 Marshall St.); and Feb. 7 in Delta Township (Delta Township Hall, 7710 W. Saginaw Highway, Meeting Room A).

Each are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
