The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is accepting applications for its 2010 Individual Artist Grants, a unique program that awards $1,000 grants to both emerging and established artists living in the greater Lansing region.
Grant applications are due Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 by 5 p.m. at the Arts Council offices, 1208 Turner St. Applicants will be reviewed by a panel of qualified artists who will select award recipients based on the merit of their work and a proposed project that gives the public access to their talent.

Artists must be current members of the Arts Council to be eligible. Artists interested in applying can download a grant application from the Arts Council's web site at, under the Resources section.
The Arts Council is also offering a free optional Grant Application Workshop for anyone interested in applying for this grant on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. at 1208 Turner St. The workshop will include an overview of the program, the grant application process and membership information. Artists can register by calling (517) 372-4636 or by emailing
Last year's Arts Council members who received the Individual Artist grants include emerging artists Erika Magers and Craig Mitchell Smith; and established artists Zahrah Resh, Paloma Rosales and Jon Whitney.
"We are excited to be able to continue offering this grant program to support visual, literary, and performing artists in the greater Lansing region," said Executive Director Leslie Donaldson.
The Individual Artist Grant Program was established by the Arts Council Board of Directors in November 2008 and is funded by interest gained from the sale of the Center for the Arts.
