Today we witness sign No. 47 that Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is going to run for governor.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Bernero will appear tonight at a Get to Know the Candidates forum in Detroit at the Renaissance Center hosted by the Michigan Education Association.

The event starts tonight at 5:30 and coincides with the MEAs annual Bargaining, Political Action and PR Conference.

Bernero will appear at the conference with University of Michigan Regent Denise Illitch another one who is undeclared-but-acting-like-a-candidate state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith (officially declared), and the only Republican, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland.

I dont know if its a mistake or the Freep knows something we dont, but they refer to Bernero as a declared candidate: Others the MEA say have committed for the event are Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith, both Democrats running for governor . Maybe they, too, are tired of waiting for the official declaration?

Could not reach an MEA spokesperson to find out what questions might be tossed out in the forum, but the Freep says it'll be providing coverage tonight on its Web site.

Others appearing at the forum include candidates for secretary of state and attorney general.
