You might not expect a show that parallels that of larger cities but An Evening of Smooth Jazz offers just that %u2014right in the community. The music series was created to support the jazz art form by providing affordable top quality music in the community. This is the 10th year of An Evening of Smooth Jazz and it features some of the best musicians in the world who do not typically perform in Mid-Michigan as well as local or regional artists. Headliner Phil Perry is a talented and versatile American R&B singer, songwriter, musician and a former member of the soul group. He has never performed in the Lansing area and we are really excited to build on that. Born and raised in East St. Louis, Phil Perry has spent most of his career as one of the most sought-after backing vocalists in the music business. His bright, multi-octave range has played a supporting role on dozens of albums by such acts as Anita Baker, Boz Scaggs, Rod Stewart, Peabo Bryson, Melba Moore, Aretha Franklin, Lee Ritenour, Toto and the late George Duke. On September 11, 2001, Perry was scheduled to perform at the World Trade Center, for the lunch hour jazz concerts between 11 am and 1 pm. His 5th solo album Magic was released that day, as well. As fate would have it, Perry was spared the devastation of the terrorist attacks on the two towers. Phil Perry %u2022 Composed, wrote and performed several songs for the Japanese anime OVA Riding Bean with friend and co-writer, David \"Creatchy\" Garfield %u2022 Made a cameo appearance in the 2009 film Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Phil Perry will be accompanied by the Al McKenzie Band which includes well-known artists with over 175 years of experience. Also appearing is Lansing\'s 496 West. They have a new CD release this summer --Auxiliary Lane.
