GLHC's Views of Lansing provides a chance to see the city in all its glory
A local charity aims to cash in on some of Lansing’s best views.
The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition's
Views of Lansing fundraiser on Saturday will showcase five buildings
known for their architecture and great views of the city. Proceeds from
the event will go to benefit the GLHC, which aims to provide quality
housing and housing assistance for area residents.
The fundraiser showcases five buildings:
the Christman Mutual Fund Building, the newly re-furbished Accident
Fund National Headquarters building, Cooley Temple, Boji Tower and the
Cooley Law Center. Katherine Draper, executive director of the GLHC,
said most of the buildings are not usually open to the general public.
The buildings were chosen mainly for
their views of the city, but also for their unique architecture and
their significance to the Lansing area, Draper said. Boji Tower, for
instance, holds the title of the tallest building in Lansing.
The event is a “rare opportunity to see
the buildings and experience what our downtown has to offer,” Draper
said, adding that the GLHC plans to use the money raised from the event
to fulfill its mission of building a healthy community through
affordable housing and assistance and educating residents. The funds
raised will help continue existing programs, such as foreclosure
counseling, home buying counseling, classes on common home maintenance
issues and affordable apartment rentals.
“We want to be able to continue to serve
our community and the residents who need us,” Draper said. The GLHC’s
services are focused primarily on qualifying low-income individuals and
