Annual event raises funds for breast cancer patients and survivors
Monday, Oct. 3 — Kick off Breast Cancer
Awareness Month by supporting patients in your community.
annual “It’s a Breast Thing” event takes place Tuesday to support local people undergoing the diagnosis, treatment and survivorship of breast cancer. Roughly
230,000 new invasive diagnoses are expected throughout 2011, as well as nearly
40,000 deaths, according to the American Cancer Society.
Stop by and vote in the
popular bra decorating contest: Thirty bras have been submitted by individuals and
local businesses under this year’s fairy-tale theme, and the top 12 will be
featured in the organization’s calendar featuring photos of local survivors. Submissions
may be purchased at the event for $30 each. The event is free, but donations
and proceeds will go toward the It’s a Breast Thing Non-Profit Corp., which
helps patients in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Shiawassee counties with
out-of-pocket expenses. The fundraiser will also feature a program about
hormones, exercise and cancer awareness.
