An exciting Easter weekend

Easter is coming up on Sunday, and the Easter Bunny will be hopping around the Lansing area this weekend to greet families and drop treat-filled eggs. Beyond holiday events, there will also be a comedy show, a home aquaponics workshop, a one-day art show, concerts, dance parties and more.

For Friday evening’s live music, we have a trio of harpist Katelynn Ehlert, flutist Richie Diaz and violist Meagan Turner at Michigan State University’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at 5:30; cover musician Ben Awrey at East Lansing’s Mash Bar and country musician Dylan Raymond at Lansing Brewing Co., both at 7; the International Chamber Soloists string ensemble at MSU’s Cook Recital Hall and MSU’s jazz orchestras with guest keyboardist Bobby Floyd at the Fairchild Theatre, both at 8; the Rotations at the Green Door at 8:30; Rapper Duke Deuce at Green Dot Stables at 9; Alternative-pop duo Lipstick Jodi and DJ Ganja Girl at Lansing Shuffle at 9:30; and cover band JP & the Energy at Mash Bar at 10. Saturday evening, we have rock band Ax and the Hatchetmen with indie-rock bands Pretty Jane & the Magazines and Pretoria at Grewal Hall at 224 at 8 and experimental rock band From Big Sur at the Green Door at 8:30. Ending the weekend on Sunday is Red Cedar Spirits’ weekly Sunday Jazz show at 6 p.m.

The MSU Broad Art Museum will host a screening of “The Midwestern VERY BAD ART SHOW,” a video performance created by Lorelei d’Andriole, an assistant professor of electronic art and intermedia, and Lex Leto, a musician and digital-media artist, 7 p.m. Friday.

It’s the last weekend to view Art Scholarship Alert, a juried exhibition of work by Michigan high school students and participants of young-adult special education programs, at the Lansing Art Gallery, which is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Other art displays on view include “Realm of Daydreams - The Wonders of Fantasy Art” at the Art Williamston gallery, which is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday; “Seeing in 360 Degrees: The Zaha Hadid Design Collection,”“DOOMSCROLLING,” the 2024 Art, Art History, and Design Faculty Triennial and the 2024 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition at the Broad Art Museum, which is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday; and the one-day Emerge! Art Show 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Keller’s Plaza in Williamston.

If you’d like to do some crafting of your own, the Lansing Makers Network will host a sewing clinic 6 p.m. Friday. Attendees will create pouches that local nonprofit Helping Women Period will use to deliver menstrual products. Donations of fabric and menstrual products will be accepted.

Ixion Ensemble Theatre wraps up its run of “Playing for Real,” about an acting troupe desperate to impress a visiting producer, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Stage One at Sycamore Creek Eastwood, and the MSU Department of Theatre presents “Waiting for Lefty,” about struggling cab drivers in the 1930s deciding whether to unionize, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Studio 60 Theatre.

Events for the kids this weekend include a day camp exploring the Amazon Rainforest 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Impression 5 Science Center; an “Edible Science”-themed camp 9 a.m. to noon Friday and a “Be an Inventor”-themed camp 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, both at TinkrLAB in East Lansing; Charlotte Community Library’s “Minecraft” Club 2:30 p.m. Friday; and R.E. Olds Transportation Museum’s Spring Break Scavenger Hunt, which guests can complete during regular hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Mac’s Bar will host comedians Michael Palascak, Johnny Mocny and Louis D. Michael 8 p.m. Friday.

Fans of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo can enjoy a dance party 8 p.m. Friday at Grewal Hall at 224, and DJ Whitney Who will be spinning “diabolical dance tunes” at the Heathen’s Ball 9 p.m. Saturday at UrbanBeat.

Visit the Hunter Park GardenHouse 10 a.m. Saturday to learn the basics of home aquaponics, including what it takes to get started, different approaches and techniques and what daily maintenance is required to run different systems.

Finally, Easter festivities include the Laingsburg Lions Club’s egg hunt 10 a.m. Saturday at McClintock Park, featuring photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny beginning at 9 a.m.; JCI Lansing’s egg hunt 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday on the Capitol lawn, featuring visits with the Easter Bunny, face painting, balloon twisting, games, raffles and live music; the Hippity Hop 5K 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Potter Park Zoo, featuring a 5K run/walk, an Easter egg hunt, children's activities, visits with the Easter Bunny and free admission to the zoo for registered 5K participants; downtown Lansing Inc.’s Bunny Hop on the Square noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, where businesses along South Washington Square will hand out free treats; an egg hunt 1 p.m. Saturday at Valhalla Park in Holt, featuring pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and visits with the Easter Bunny; Capital City Market’s One-Hop Shop event 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, offering free samples from Michigan-based vendors and free treats for kids 12 and under at each sample station; the Lansing Area Church of Christ’s Easter FamilyFest 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, featuring an egg hunt, face painting, kids’ crafts, a bounce house and a community dinner; and an egg decorating event 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing.
