FRIDAY, Oct. 5 — Described as a social vigilante, touring comedian Krish Mohan leaves no touchy and hot button topics off the table.

“I am talking about stuff you are not supposed to talk about,” Mohan said. “You are not supposed to discuss riches, religion and politics. But it should be talked about more regularly, with more thought and personal thinking.”

Comedy is a great way to start a dialogue without people screaming at each other, he added. “I make it funny, so we are not just angry the whole time.”

Mohan said, as an immigrant to the United States from India, the American way of thinking is so absurd he doesn’t need to alter much to make it funny.

“To me, it is the unwillingness to understand. I think everyone is capable of empathizing, but it is a lot easier to put everyone down with stereotypes for little traits,” he said. “We've been conditioned and trained to generalize stereotypes. It takes the capacity to think deeper, and we are tricked into thinking we cannot do that.”

Forty weeks a year, Mohan is touring with his comedy act across all parts of the U.S.

“It gives me perspective and helps me build less polarized material.”

Often times people are more open to talk about issues from both sides after his set is finished, he said.

“To me, it is meeting different people and encouraging other people to talk to me about their point of view and stories.”

This is personally validating, Mohan said.

“The validation is returned to the audience as well.”
