Heroin's continued toll in Lansing

Sept. 25 saw four overdose incidents involving five people, two deaths

Lansing's heroin epidemic is continuing.

Lansing Police confirm four separate incidents related to heroin overdoses involving five people on Friday alone.

Chief Michael Yankowski provided the following break down of incidents:

3:50am- 3900 blk. of W. Jolly- LPD called to the scene for a sudden death investigation for a 34 yr old male. Unknown cause of death at this time, but the investigation is looking at a possible Heroin drug overdose. (FATAL)

11:30am- Hartford & Waverly- LPD called to the scene for a 31yr old male found unresponsive near the intersection. LFD was able to revive the subject and transported the subject to local hospital for treatment. This is being investigated as a NON-FATAL, Heroin overdose.

6:32pm- 500 Blk of River- LPD and LFD called to the scene of subject (male 58 yrs. old) having a seizure. LFD arrived on scene and transported the subject to local hospital for treatment. This is being investigated as a NON-FATAL, Heroin overdose.

9:37pm- 1800 blk of Alpha- LPD and LFD called to the scene for two subjects found unresponsive. LFD transported both subjects to a local hospital for treatment. One of subjects (48 yr old male) was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Unknown cause of death at this time, but the investigation is looking at a possible (FATAL) Heroin drug overdose. The second subject, a 39 yr old female, was successful revived. This overdose is being investigated as a NON-FATAL, Heroin overdose.

To summarize, 5 drug overdoses, with two fatalities. Both of the fatalities are NOT confirmed at Heroin over doses, pending autopsy and toxicology reports.

New numbers reported by WILX on Friday show that 54 Ingham county residents have died of heroin overdoses since January.
