Here's what's going on in town today

Posted

Good day! Today Lansing hopes to enjoy some warmth and occasional bursts of sun on this early-Fall day.

Today's the last day to pre-register for Old Town Oktoberfest, for $17. Tickets go up to $20 after midnight and can be purchased at oldtownoktoberfest.com.

If you find yourself free at 3:30 today, you may wish to check out a mural unveiling in Downtown Lansing's Stadium District. The celebration is located at 414 E. Michigan Ave., on the east wall of the building. Michigan artist Mathew Sharum created the 12 by 28 foot mural for the Design Committee of Downtown Lansing Inc., which was awarded a grant for the work from the City of Lansing. The theme of the piece is "Greetings from Lansing."The color-blind Sharum, who uses technology to perfect the colors in his work, painted with imagery inspired by vintage postcards. The work is meant to be a greeting to Lansing visitors. In addition to this, Thursday offers a plethora of other activities in the Lansing area. See more below.

Panel: Art and Incarceration.

The LookOut! Gallery on MSU's campus opens its 'Living Inside the World' exhibition with a panel for discussion, education, and social engagement. The show, which features paintings, sculptures and drawings from currently incarcerated individuals, has been put together by the Prison Creative Arts Project at the University of Michigan alongside curator Charlie Michaels. MSU's Residential College of Arts and Humanities hosts the panel, which includes talks from the curator, an artist, and activists who work with incarceration-related issues. The panel promises to challenge and to educate while offering an opportunity for expression to those behind bars. The show will be up through October 23rd.
