What's up in Lansing — Pop Up Stories and more

Good day on this rainy-turned-sunny Wednesday.

Remember when you were young and the only thing more exciting than building that giant, elaborate sand castle was knocking it down? REACH Studio Art Center in REO Town invites community members to share their creative impulses and destructive tendencies at today's Pop-Up Stories event.

Participants are invited to share a five-minute story of a time when they poured their heart into a creative act — or a destructive one. WKAR’s “Current State” host Mark Bashore emcees the event, and light refreshments are provided.

Guests are asked to pre-register due to space constraints, so get in touch soon. Questions and storyteller sign-ups can be emailed to “Current State” producer April Van Buren at avanburen@wkar.org.

East Lansing residents take note: with the upcoming election less than a month away, the Associated Students of Michigan State University will be host an East Lansing city council election debate and discussion to help students and residents make an informed decision.

Candidates Jermaine Ruffin, Steve Ross, Erik Altmann, Mark Meadows, Shanna Draheim and Nathan Triplett will discuss how they will address issues facing the East Lansing. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask the candidates questions of their own.

The debate is open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
