What's up in Lansing: Tree care and more

Here's what's going on in town today

Posted
Good day on this kind-of-warm Monday.

Many people find themselves driven to nurture other living beings, so they take in pets, or have babies, or let spiders free in the backyard instead of smashing them. MSU Extension offers an alternative outlet for the compassionate caretakers of Mid-Michigan: trees. Volunteers are invited to "adopt" individual trees in the are and periodically monitor and report on the tree's condition over time. The goal is to protect Michigan's trees and forests from invasive species that wreak havoc when introduced to new environments. MSU is offering a workshop for interested and current volunteers. Today's workshop provides information on the program, the state of the forests and pests, and how to sustainably manage the trees. 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. $10/$5 additional family member. Kellogg Conference Center, 219 S. Harrison Road, East Lansing. (517) 353-9435, ow.ly/YToYu.
