Educators in Michigan come together at the steps of the Capitol Saturday to show policy makers their dedication to education and to improving the teaching environment in the Lansing School District. The rally, organized by the Lansing Schools Education Association, includes guest speakers from Friends of Education. Local food vendors are available, and family-friendly activities include face painting, bounce houses, balloons, a teacher swap meet, live DJ and more. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. FREE. Local Sikhs invite the community to celebrate Vaisakhi Day, the most important Sikh holiday of the entire year. The Saturday event offers a visitors a chance to learn about the religion and its teachings. Vaisakhi Day, which is celebrated worldwide, commemorates the anniversary of the first Amrit initiation ceremony, a Sikh baptism ceremony, in 1699. The parade starts at 12:30 p.m. on Grand Avenue next to Adado Riverfront Park and ends at the State Capitol. The festival kicks off at 11:00 a.m. in Adado Riverfront Park.
